Denise Ferreira da Silva is Professor and Director of the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia. She holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Pittsburgh with research stays at the University of California, San Diego, and Queen Mary University, London. She is the author of Toward a Global Idea of Race (University of Minnesota Press, 2007) and The Unpayable Debt (Sternberg Press, 2022). Along with Paula Chakravartty, she co-edited Race, Empire, and the Crisis of the Subprime (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2013). In 2017, she was invited by curator and philosopher Paul B. Preciado to participate, with Click Ngwere, in Documenta 14 with the intervention Unpayable Debt: Reflections on Value and Violence. His artistic work also includes the films Serpent Rain (2016) and 4 Waters: Deep Implicancy (2018), in collaboration with Arjuna Neuman, as well as lectures, exhibitions and performances at institutions such as the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Whitechapel Gallery in London, the Masp in São Paulo, the Solomon R. Aléxia Bretas is an Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of ABC, where she teaches courses in Philosophy and Humanities. She hold a master's and PhD degree in Philosophy at USP, a postdoctoral degree in Literary Theory at UNICAMP with research stays at Freie Universität Berlin (2009) and Université Paris 8 (2013). She is the author of The constellation of dreams in Walter Benjamin (Humanitas, 2008), From the artist's novel to the permanence of art (Annablume, 2013), Fantasmagorias da modernity (Ed. Unifesp, 2017) and Beneath men (EdUFABC, in press). She is a member of the Philosophy and Gender WG of the National Association of Graduate Studies in Philosophy (ANPOF), of the Brazilian Network of Philosophers Women and of the Esperança Garcia Gender Studies Nucleus.

The Brazilian Women Philosophers / Filósofas Brasileiras series is promoted by the Extending New Narratives in Philosophy and by the Brazilian Network of Women Philosophers. With curation by Carolina Araújo and Carmel Ramos, both at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), the series invites intellectuals to present the ideas of prominent Brazilian Women Philosophers. Focused on the author's concepts and arguments, the videos intend to show the importance of reading her works and introducing them in the academic curriculum.
Denise Ferreira da Silva é professora titular e diretora do Instituto de Gênero, Raça, Sexualidade e Justiça Social da University of British Columbia. Aléxia Bretas é professora adjunta na Universidade Federal do ABC, onde leciona nos cursos de Filosofia e no Bacharelado em Ciências e Humanidades. Tem mestrado e doutorado em Filosofia pela USP, pós-doutorado em Teoria Literária pela UNICAMP e estágios de pesquisa na Freie Universität Berlin (2009) e na Université Paris 8 (2013). É autora dos livros A constelação do sonho em Walter Benjamin (Humanitas, 2008), Do romance de artista à permanência da arte (Annablume, 2013), Fantasmagorias da modernidade (Ed. Unifesp, 2017) e Aquém do homem (EdUFABC, no prelo). É membro do GT de Filosofia e Gênero da Associação Nacional de Pós-graduação em Filosofia (ANPOF), da Rede Brasileira de Mulheres Filósofas e do Núcleo de Estudos de Gênero Esperança Garcia.
